Aesthetic Specialty Centre provides the Atlanta area with complete dermatology and skin care services. To reduce the telltale signs of aging and sun damage and to tone, smooth, and even out skin imperfections, our Atlanta practice uses laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion, and a range of popular chemical and medical grade skin care. Advances in these dermatology techniques make maintaining healthy, beautiful skin easier and more affordable for more and more people. Many of our facelift patients follow their major enhancements with treatments to refine their skin.
Our highly trained doctors are recognized in the Atlanta area as masters of laser resurfacing, the modern cosmetic art that gives your face a younger, healthier appearance.
Common signs of aging on the skin's surface are superficial wrinkling, and blotchy pigmentation. Using a very precise laser, our dermatology specialists can vaporize the affected skin cells, one layer at a time, until you have smooth, healthy skin. Because laser treatment reaches deeper than other resurfacing techniques, we perform laser resurfacing with local anesthesia and oral sedation.
After the laser resurfacing procedure, the affected area is covered with a sterile dressing for a few days. Once the dressing is removed, the patient will cleanse the area with a mild solution a few times each day, and then apply moisturizing ointments to prevent scab formation. The post-surgical care may take from 10 to 21 days, depending on the patient and the area treated.
Our skin care specialists will show you how to use special medical-grade makeup to cover the temporary pink to red skin color that results from laser resurfacing. For most patients, normal skin color will return in two to three months. When it's all over, your skin will look years younger.
If you suffer from excessive wrinkling, thinning, or pigment blotches of the skin, contact the offices of Atlanta area plastic surgeon Marc Yune.
Microdermabrasion is a very popular non-surgical exfoliating treatment, especially because there is no downtime involved. Microdermabrasion is an effective treatment for superficial acne, sun-damaged skin, age spots, freckles, fine lines, large pores, and rough skin. After microdermabrasion at our Atlanta-area clinic, your skin will feel soft and your complexion will take on a healthy glow. This treatment can be performed anywhere on the body and is a therapeutic approach to skin care, when combined with a medical-grade skin care regimen. We recommend a series of treatments for best results.
Chemical peel is performed by applying topical acids that aid in the restoration and rejuvenation of the skin's surface. This procedure is designed to help smooth coarse, dry skin, improve the texture of sun-damaged skin, and even out skin tone. Recovery is quick and usually involves some minor flaking. A series of treatments is recommended to obtain optimal results. These treatments are best used in conjunction with a medical-grade skin care regimen.
A facial is a great way to start taking care of your skin. Our medical estheticians can analyze your skin upon arrival and discuss which of our facials would best suit your skin type. During treatment, you will enjoy relaxation while the esthetician cleanses, exfoliates, applies a therapeutic mask, and massages your skin. At the end of the facial the appropriate skin care products will be applied and a daily regimen will be custom designed for you.
The dermatology experts at Aesthetic Specialty Centre can treat a wide range of skin abnormalities using the Vbeam® pulsed dye laser, either by itself or in combination with a topical medication, in a procedure known as photodynamic therapy (PDT).
The Vbeam® laser's intense light is absorbed by red skin cells, including those present in facial veins, red stretch marks, and red vascular birthmarks known as port wine stains. It can also be used to treat the redness caused by rosacea. The light causes blood in red skin cells to coagulate; this kills the cells, which are then absorbed by the body.
Used in combination with a topical medication, the Vbeam® pulsed dye laser can also be used to treat non-red skin abnormalities, including acne, age spots, sun-damaged skin, hyperpigmentation, and pre-cancerous cells known as actinic keratoses.
In photodynamic therapy, a 20 percent solution of aminolevulinic acid hydrochloride is applied to the skin using a special device known as the Levulan® Kerastick®. This solution increases the photosensitivity of non-red abnormal cells, allowing them to absorb the laser light. As with the red cells treated without the solution, the target cells absorb the light, coagulate, and are eliminated by the body's immune system.
Contact our Atlanta-area skin care and dermatology practice to learn how the Vbeam® laser and photodynamic therapy can help you.
In addition to photodynamic therapy, Aesthetic Specialty Centre can perform more traditional skin cancer surgery. Please contact us to discuss your case with our highly skilled doctors.
After injury, many people are left with scars that need surgical attention. Excision is the surgical technique whereby the surgeon removes excess scar tissue and carefully sutures the wound together to create an even, narrow, much less conspicuous scar. It may be possible to simultaneously reposition the scar so that it will fall within natural skin lines or creases. If this is not an option, a technique called geometric broken line closure (GBLC) can be used. In this type of scar revision, the straight, unnatural line of a visible scar is broken into small geometric patterns that are difficult for the eye to follow, causing a scar to blend better with the surrounding skin. Microdermabrasion can smooth any residual surface irregularities and enhance the final result.
Most people with recent scarring want immediate repair, but often a scar must be allowed to "mature" before surgery. Maturation is a gradual change in appearance that scars go through until they have stabilized. Initially a scar may look red or raised. Gradually, the firmness and red color resolve and disappear, leaving a softer scar that is more level and somewhat lighter than the surrounding skin. This can take from six to twenty-four months. In some situations, waiting may be the best and only treatment necessary. Occasionally, steroid injections or steroid taping help decrease a reddened, raised scar. This applies especially to surgical scars which are slow to heal and to scars resulting from recent skin trauma.
Often, scar revision surgery must be staged over a period of months or years in order to obtain the best results.
Laser hair removal is an effective, long-term solution for unwanted hair. We use the Lightsheer Diode Laser, a state-of-the-art system specially designed to remove unwanted hair faster, with less discomfort and more reliability than other methods such as electrolysis, waxing, shaving, tweezing, and chemical depilatories. This technology allows for safe and effective treatment of all skin types, including naturally dark or tanned skin. Spider veins, medically known as telangiectasia, are visible dilated red and blue skin capillaries on the legs. The doctors of Aesthetic Specialty Centre can treat spider veins by injecting them with a solution that will shrink and fade them. Although the spider veins will not completely disappear, they can be made to fade so that they will be barely noticeable. Maximum fading may take from two weeks to two months. Repeated treatments may be required if new spider veins develop.
